Aloha mates.
Been quite some time, I know.
Let me explain...
No, there is too much. Let me sum-up.
And I'll use small words, so you that you'll be sure to understand, you warthog-faced buffoon.
Things got busy a few months back, what with the holidays and a few other matters, so I let the posting slide.
And now it's some 4 months later, and SO MUCH important stuff has happened, that I just can't conceivably give it proper treatment.
This is preventing me from posting about anything, because I can't possibly post about minor things like a poker game when I haven't mentioned "the big stuff".
So here's my solution. I'm giving you the "New York Minute" summation of the past 4 or so months, just to catch ya'all up...
Then I can proceed as normal. Which is to say, never post again.
Here goes:
After finally getting the ring right, Mary and I went down to her parents' place for Christmas (my first Xmas away from my family), where a good time was had by all, I met many many many many many many relatives and had a little talk with her father.
Just before New Year's, on a fun little evening, I proposed over a game of Pai-Gow Poker (to understand, you'd have to know the story of how we met) and she, I believe, eventually said "yes".
So yeah. I'm getting married. At the end of THIS summer.
So, what else, what else...
Ah yes. Mary, who is finishing up her PhD dissertation within weeks, got a job! Very much with the congratulating to her!
She'll be teaching Sociology at Michigan State University, in East Lansing starting in August.
So on top of getting married around then, we're also moving to a different part of the country at the same time!
No pressure! ;)
So that's my agenda at the moment:
1) Prepare for wedding. Who am I kidding, she's doing most of the work here. My idea of a good wedding involves some paper plates, a few decks of cards, an Elvis Impersonator/Justice of the Peace and a meeple-themed reception. My job here is just to nod. A lot.
But seriously, the thing is going to be gorgeous and I'm loving how it's turning out. The woman has good taste, her choice in me not-withstanding!
2) Pack the house. I just started on this a bit last night. Going to be hard. Anyone got any boxes?
3) Sell the house. Started on this this week, which was a bit late. Anyone want to buy a house?
4) Get a new job. Yep, I'm in the job market. If you know someone in technology in the central Michigan area, please feel free to hook me up. I would be nowhere in life without the kindness of friends, or strangers.
5) Move to Michigan. A trial in and of itself. Anyone got any boxes?
6) Buy/rent a place in/near East/Lansing. Never done the "buying a house long distance" thing. We may be desperate for a place to stay by the time mid-august rolls around. Anyone got any boxes?
7) Generally live-it-up with my friends and enjoy these last few months in the area. They're a good group and I'm going to miss them all.
Having said that though, I am kinda looking forward to getting to the new area though. I'm pretty good at the "new beginning" thing, and have no doubt I'll hook into some new friends once I get out there, so I can drop these bedraggled old ones like a bad habit pretty quickly.
So yeah, that's pretty much it! Not much, huh?
No clue when I'll post again, but at least that particular excuse as to why I'm not posting is gone...
